Coronary Disease Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Disease, Coronary Insufficiency

Coronary artery disease Boynton Beach refers to the narrowing of arteries in the heart caused by atherosclerosis. Due to the narrowing, the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen. If the heart lacks oxygen, chest pain (angina pectoris) is triggered. If an artery is completely obstructed, a heart attack occurs, which in the medical field is known as myocardial infarction. Coronary heart disease is the most common form of heart disease and heart attacks are a leading cause of death for both men and women.

Many of these deaths could be prevented, as some of the risk factors for this disease can be addressed. Risk factors that can be controlled include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. There are other factors associated with lifestyle such as smoking, obesity, excessive alcohol consumption and physical inactivity.

Although medical treatments for heart disease have made a lot of progress, reducing risk factors remains the primary way to prevent disease and death associated with coronary heart disease. Drug treatment is not the only way to fight coronary artery disease. Here are some good tips for heart health – stop smoking, adopt a healthy diet, drink alcohol in moderation, control your blood sugar and have your cholesterol levels checked periodically.
